As navigating a yacht is quite a responsibility, having a crew on board definitely means an easier, stress-free sailing holiday. Another good thing about having someone of the crew on board is that they can give you helpful advice or useful information. 

If you don’t posses a valid nautical licence, you are obligated to hire a skipper. And even if you do have a licence, but not enough experience in navigation, it would be wise to hire a skipper, at least for a couple of days, until you get the hang of it. He is in charge of driving the yacht and keeping it run smoothly, so you don’t need to concern yourself with that.

Other potential crew members are a hostess, a chef and a sailor. With them aboard, you really don’t have to do anything, but relax and have fun.

• The hostess takes care of the meals (if there is no chef), cleans and tidies up the yacht and communicates with the guests (answering questions, giving advice)
• The chef is, of course, in charge of the kitchen; he will cook for you, according to his ideas and your wishes, and take care of groceries and beverage supplies
• The sailor is helping around the yacht, keeping it run smoothly; he is a regular crew member on larger yachts that are too big for only one person to handle. 

Even if you don’t fell like you need someone with you on board, it is recommended, for your own safety, to have on board a professional, who knows the area well.
